Annapurna – Day 1

Naya Pul to Tikne Dhunga

First day of the walk started with drive from Pokhara after breakfast and a quick visit to the barber for a 70p shave (including a tip) for Mark. The drive gave a glimpse of some the mountains we would be seeing close up in a few days; Fish tail and Annapurna II and South.

After lunch we got started walking through lush jungle and high country paddy fields. No mountains sighted during this walk, which had us sweating buckets in what must have been around 30C. The terrain is rough and constantly up and down, the locals call it Nepali flat! The final ascent to Tikne Dhunge is straight up hill for the last 2 km which was a good test. Luckily a hot shower was available at the teahouse when we arrived as dusk set in and the temp dropped away. A hot shower seemed the worst possible idea in the heat of the day but it was gratefully appreciated before tucking into some Dal Bhat and Egg fried rice for dinner at 1500m.
