Day 1
Mt Everest peered about the clouds before we made our decent into Kathmandu, an amazing introduction to Nepal and a sample of the Himalayas that await us! The airport experience was pretty funny as we had to wait for a bus to drive the 50m to the terminal and once inside it was laissez faire as well. After an eye opening and bumpy taxi ride we arrived at our hotel the Ganesh Himal
Though once out into the bustle of Kathmandu, the serenity of the mountains seem far away. Driving through the narrow streets, avoiding other cars, taxis, bikes and mopeds by what seems like millimetres we made it to the hotel, luckily in one piece.. my knuckles were a little sore though!
In the afternoon we were back out on the roads, this time by foot. You definitely have to keep your wits about you so you don’t walk into any oncoming traffic, or try and avoid it anyway! We headed for Durbar Square, a world heritage site with temples and shrines dating back to the 12th century. We sat at the top of one of the temples and watched and took in the sights and sounds of the chaos below.
