Day 1
After an early arrival and very little if no sleep it was a battle for the rest of the day to stay awake and not give into jet lag – or tiredness is probably a better description in this case.
Got to check into the room early, a brief sit down at the pool and then we were off to find lunch after sorting out travel cards and meeting Amanda. First food stop of the trip was at the Lau Pa Sak Festival Market, an amazing market with an array of food from Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, Vietnamese and more.. It was pretty hard to decide what to have!
After lunch it was up to the Jurong Bird Park for some feathered action, The trip on the MRT took about 40 minutes and each of us must have nodded off at least 20 times each, luckily we managed to make our stop! Got there just in time for the birds of prey show which managed to liven us all up, with the big birds swooping in over your head you have to be alert! As Zoo’s and Parks go its one of the better ones with the Lory Loft and the Owl house the favourite areas – you don’t feel too out of place without kids in toe! You can get close up and personal with the parrots, plying them with sugary water so they walk up your arms. Though as it does tend to make them even more hyper than normal, you have to make you don’t become a victim of the same stuff exiting their other end!
Day 2
The day started off with a curry for breakfast.. Mark’s favourite! It was a very hot day with the humidity enough to make you dripping with sweat as soon as you walked out the door. After a quick trip to drop off a couple of bags at a friend of Andrea’s brothers – to be picked up on our way back through at the end of the year, we headed to Orchard Road. We skipped the Gucci and Prada’s, unfortunately a little out of the travel budget! After meeting Amanda we headed off for lunch.
The afternoon was spent by the pool, we thought we better make the most of it as it could be a while before we have one in a hotel again! We said our goodbyes to Amanda as she wished us well on our travels, we will meet again on the other side in NZ. That night after a quick stop off at China town we headed back to the Hawkers market for dinner. After that we went for a cruise along the river, then back for a bit of late night packing and preparing for an early start.
